Why Vote?

Every Canadian citizen has the right to vote. It is how Canadians choose which leaders represent them. Your community is shaped by the outcome of an election. Voting connects citizens with the political process and, when you take part in an election and express your view, you make democracy work.

All voters must be on the permanent Electors Registry. Voters are encouraged to register in advance to speed up the voting process at the polling station. Go to voterlink.ab.ca to register to vote or confirm your information is correct.

You may also register by phone: 310-0000 then dial 780-427-7191

If you are not registered ahead of time, electors will be required to register in person at the polling station and will be required to sign a declaration.

To vote, a voter must prove their identity and address. You can prove your identity by:

  • Producing government issued identification containing the elector’s photograph, current address and name.
  • Someone who knows you can vouch for your address only.
