Local municipal government elections are held under the authority of the Local Authorities Election Act.

OFFICIAL ORDER OF COUNCIL FOR TWO REFERENDUM QUESTIONS


Municipal Election – Monday, October 18, 2021

The Local Authorities Election Act specifies that a general election shall be held every 4th year.
The General Municipal Election will be held in the Town of Didsbury on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the Didsbury Memorial Complex located at 1702 21 Avenue. This election will fill seven (7) seats; one for Mayor and six Councillors.

REFERENDUM QUESTIONS FOR THE PROVINCE

Albertans are being asked two questions in the referendum vote on October 18, 2021. Both referendum questions allow for a ‘yes’ vote or a ‘no’ vote and are binding on the provincial government, based on the majority of votes cast.

The Returning Officer or designate will receive nominations of candidates for the local jurisdiction election during regular business hours of 8:30 am. and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, from January 4, 2021, to September 17, 2021, and on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 8:30 am. until 12:00 pm, noon, at the Town of Didsbury Municipal building located 1606 – 14 Street, Didsbury. 

 


NOMINATION FEE

The nomination fee is $100.00 which is payable by cash, cheque, or money order.


NOMINATION PAPERS

Appointments are required to hand in Nomination Papers prior to Nomination Day on September 20, 2021.

Tuesday, August 31 and September 7, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers 1606 - 14 Street.
Nomination DaySeptember 20, 2021, 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Withdrawal PeriodSeptember 20-21, 2021, 12:00 p.m. noon until 12:00 p.m. noon the following day.
All Candidates Forum
September 27, 2021 (at the Didsbury Memorial Complex, 1702-21 Avenue, Didsbury from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.).
Elector Assistance at Home Vote
Wednesday, October 6, 2021, and Thursday, October 7, 2021, For those who need assistance they can partake in a Municipal Election Elector Assistance at Home Vote to be held by appointment only, with the deadline to book appointments on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Contact Luana Smith or Deborah Porath at 403.335.3391 to book an appointment.
Advance Voting
October 6-7, 2021, 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
(at the Town Office, 1606-14th Street, Didsbury).

Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Didsbury Municipal Library.

Election DayOctober 18, 2021, 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
(at the Didsbury Memorial Complex, 1702-21 Avenue, Didsbury).
Institutional Vote
Monday, October 18, 2021. The 2021 Municipal Election Institutional Vote to be held at the following locations and times: • Didsbury Hospital (1210 - 20 Avenue) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. • Aspen Ridge Lodge (1100 - 20 Avenue) from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and • Bethany Care Facility (1201 - 15 Avenue) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

VOTER IDENTIFICATION ON ELECTION DAY

Proof of identity and current residence is required to be able to vote in municipal elections.
